Steven Defossez, MD, EMHL, CPE is MHA’s V.P., Clinical Integration. At MHA, Steve’s responsibilities include strategic leadership, education and policy initiatives which facilitate MHA members’ transitions in meeting key health delivery reform imperatives at the federal and state levels, with a focus on physician relationships. In particular, Steve leads MHA’s Physician/Hospital Integration Collaborative (PHIC) and the Physician Leadership Council (PLC), coordinating efforts with MHA staff on related technical and policy matters.
Steve contributes the physician perspective, selecting MHA goals related to clinical issues, including but not limited to quality of care, patient safety, public health information and health information technology. As a result of these activities Steve contributes to a strong public presence for MHA, serving as its lead representative and spokesperson on physician-related issues.
Steve was a multi-term Medical Staff President at Northeast Hospital Corp., and led physician engagement during Northeast’s affiliation with Lahey. A radiologist and MRI specialist, his collaborative leadership skills and respect landed him on the new Lahey Health system board as a founding member.

Michael Crain, M.D. received his BA, Summa Cum Laude, from Oberlin College. He then spent a year as a Neuroscience Research Assistant at Harvard University. He earned his M.D. degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and did his internship at the Jersey Shore Medical Center. Dr. Crain completed his Residency and Cross-Sectional Imaging Fellowship at the George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Crain is Board Certified from the American Board of Radiology. He is a member of the American College of Radiology and The Radiological Society of North America. He has been a radiologist at Middlesex Hospital for the past 30 years. Dr. Crain is the former Radiology Chairman at Middlesex Hospital.
He is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of Radiologic Associates of Middletown. Dr. Crain has successfully started programs in 3T MRI, Lung Cancer Screening, 3D Tomosynthesis Mammography, Pancreatic Cancer Screening, Low Dose CT Imaging, Prostate Cancer MRI.
Dr. Crain is currently working to improve patient care by immediate & cost-effective imaging sharing between all HealthCare Providers, improving the quality of imaging exams by standardizing and disclosing quality metrics of Imaging Centers, and preventing serious diseases by appropriate screening exams.
